Heritage Park Baptist Church was founded in 2002 as a church planting ministry of Temple Baptist Church in Powell, TN. The church’s early days were spent in the Glade Valley Nursing Home in Walkersville, MD. As the Lord grew the work, 23 acres of farmland was bought in 2006 at 11849 Cash Smith Rd in Keymar, MD, with the intention of building a church building.
In April 2011, James Bussard became the second pastor of the church. From that time the church began a formal restart process to refocus on the preaching and teaching of God’s Word in order to serve the Lord Jesus Christ according to the scriptures. In August 2013, the church was blessed to start meeting in the St. John’s UCC building on 8 N. Second St. in Woodsboro, MD. The church building seats 120 people comfortably, has a fellowship hall for events, and a nursery/children’s classroom. In 2015, the church felt led to change the name to Heritage Baptist Church, to reflect their hope to promote a godly heritage in the Woodsboro area.
James Bussard believes that every believer ought to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and learn of Him, as He calls every believer to throughout the Bible. He also believes the church must go forward as a loving, united body to attack the gates of Hell with the gospel message (Ephesians 4:3; Matthew 16:18), while lifting up the fallen and healing the brokenhearted through consistent benevolence in Jesus’ name and the steady teaching and preaching of God’s Word. He is excited at the miracles the Lord has done in His name and His church, and looks forward to what the Lord has in store for Heritage Baptist in the future.
